Make your website work for you

Here's an example of how copy pulls readers in and turns them into customers in seconds. How's this possible? The focus is on YOU, the customer and your needs!

See for yourself...

What if your website doubled your customer base?

That's the kind of potential you have at your fingertips when you harness the incredible power of the Internet and put it to work for you. Unfortunately, most people will never know how to take advantage of it.

I don't want you to be one of them.

And there's absolutely no reason you have to be. Your website can help your business become the kind of success you've always dreamed of. But you have to know the difference between a website that just sits there and one that grabs people and doesn't let go.

And I'm not talking about Flash movies!

Ever feel like there aren't enough hours in the day?

It's a lot of work running your own business. Not only is there the work itself - everything that goes into providing your services - but there are almost always a million other details to keep track of.

Check the box next to any item that takes up a lot of your time:

  • Paperwork
  • Equipment or technical issues
  • Special events
  • Personnel problems
  • Correspondence
  • Staying current in your field
  • Putting out fires
  • All of the above

That's several full-time jobs right there. And it's up to you to keep it all going, right?

You shouldn't have to worry about marketing your business on top of all that! But if you don't, maybe you worry about how you'll find the new clients/customers you need to keep your base strong and your business thriving.

Unfortunately, that's a real concern. Markets change overnight, and if you don't stay ahead of the curve it's easy to find yourself falling behind.

But imagine this for a moment: What if you suddenly had a brilliant and dedicated full-time employee who could handle all the marketing for you, whose sole purpose was to provide a steady stream of new prospects for your business? You've just freed up an enormous chunk of your time and energy for more important things, like running your business. Now you can afford to spend more time doing other things you love too - maybe even take a well-earned vacation.

What a concept! Sound great?

That's what your website can - and should - do for you. But it's even better than that, because an effective website doesn't just work full time, it works all the time, 24/7.

So if your current site isn't delivering eager new customers to your door, it's time to get yourself a website that actually works for you. And I'm going to tell you exactly how to do that.

The power to dream big dreams

But before I tell you the secret to building effective websites, I'd like you to think about the top 3 things you'd like to have more time for, the things that matter most to you. It's so important to have a clear vision of how you want to live your life.

If you had two more hours in every day, what would you do with it? Go for long walks? Spend more time with your family? Play video games? Learn another language? Take up tap dancing? Start working on that novel (finally)? Whatever your choices are, these are the things that really matter to you. The list usually changes over time - yours is probably different now from what it would have been ten years ago or what it will be next year - but it's a good way to get a glimpse of what's important to you at this moment in your life.

So think about it for a minute. Then, in the box below, please type in the top 3 things you wish you had more time for in your life.

Did you do it? Great. Now, let's see how I can help you get there. Just one more question, though: Did “Marketing my business” appear on your list? Right. Didn't think so.

The #1 secret to building effective websites

Now that you have in mind what you'd rather be doing than marketing your business - and you know that your website can and should do that job for you - let's help you build a site that will do exactly that.

If you own a small business these days, you know you need a website. But all too often, small business owners end up paying a bunch of money for something that has more flashing lights, gimmicks, and moving parts than a day at Disneyland. Then they sit back and wait for the customers to show up.

And they keep waiting. And waiting. And waiting...

Because the sad truth is, most websites just don't deliver the goods.

Why not? Because they have the wrong idea. Many, if not most, web builders think the whole thing is about dazzle, and they set out to build a site with the maximum number of whirligigs and special features. But they're like architects who are so caught up in how a building looks that they forget to put any doors in it.

By now you've probably spent enough time searching the Internet to know there are millions of ways to build a website. But as you read every word of this article, you'll discover that there's really only one sure way to build effective websites, websites that generate new business.

What's the secret?

Like most important truths, it's something that seems so obvious it should go without saying. Yet millions of people fail to see it at all, and that failure can cost them dearly. I really don't want you to make that kind of mistake. So I'm going to tell you the surprising secret behind the most successful websites.

Are you ready? Read this carefully because it could make all the difference in the success or failure of your site - and could have a huge impact on the success or failure of your business.

The #1 secret to creating effective websites is a simple but revolutionary truth: Building a great website is about building relationships with people. That one bears repeating

Building a great website is about building relationships with people.

People. Remember them? Those delightful, maddening creatures we sometimes forget are the ones actually using the Internet to find something they need. They're looking for information; they're looking for solutions; they're looking for help. And it doesn't matter how awesome your site design is if you don't connect with the actual human beings who need your services.

So how do you build relationships with people you've never seen? On the Web, as in most other parts of the world, the main way you connect with people is with words. The tricky thing on the Internet though, is that you only have a fraction of a second to make that crucial connection. If you don't speak directly, powerfully, and immediately to people's needs and desires, then - click - you've lost them before you've even had a chance to leave your calling card.

People respond to people. It's just the way we're wired; we're social animals. And we tend to respond with openness and interest when we feel that someone really understands us - and especially if they offer us something we really need or really want. Sure, people might be wowed for a few seconds - or even a few minutes - by a slick-looking “flash and splash” site, but that's not going to get them to take action if the content doesn't speak directly to their concerns or interests. You can't fake that, and no software program, no matter how sophisticated, can do it for you.

And taking action is the bottom line. If the people visiting your site aren't taking the action you want them to take - calling for a free consultation, signing up for your seminar, subscribing to your newsletter, getting on your mailing list - then the site is just taking up space.

So how do you create a site that inspires people to take action?

That's where I come in. I've got the skills and expertise to build you a site that not only looks terrific and functions beautifully but actually delivers what your website should deliver: Real, live people who can't wait to do business with you!

How? I take the time to listen to you. It's that simple, really, but you'd be amazed how few web builders have the even the slightest idea what it means. The very first step in our process is to understand what you and your business are trying to accomplish. Then - and only then - I can create a site that turns idle traffic into eager customers.

It's that people thing again: turning traffic into people. Some web marketers call this your conversion rate, but it doesn't matter what you call as long as your site makes it happen.

Maybe you're familiar with search engine optimization (SEO), which is basically a way of getting traffic to your site by figuring out how to talk to the search engines. This is important, of course, because people need to find your site in order to use it. (And it's part of the services I provide.) But what most web designers don't understand is that knowing how to talk to the search engines is only a small part of the equation.

Knowing how to talk to people is what really counts. Even if your site gets a thousand hits a day, it doesn't do you any good if they all just click away before they contact you.

That's what makes me different. I don't think in terms of how many hits your site gets. I think in terms of how many people it inspires to start doing business with you.

What I'll do for you

I love helping small businesses succeed. I work primarily with small business owners and sole proprietors who offer some type of service. Some clients are just launching a business, while others are reinventing their existing business and need a new website that reflects their new direction. Here are just a few examples of the kinds of enterprises that my services are perfect for (but the possibilities are as infinite as the imaginative ways people earn a living):

  • Landscapers
  • Personal trainers
  • Corporate consultants
  • Performers
  • Performance coaches
  • Restaurants
  • Bakeries
  • Barbershops
  • Dance / Yoga / Martial arts studios
  • Daycare centers
  • Writers / Editors / Designers
  • Tattoo artists
  • Realtors
  • Life coaches
  • Photographers
  • Horse trainers
  • Jugglers
  • Massage therapists
  • Tailors / Dressmakers
  • Salons and spas
  • DJs

My sites are copy-driven - story-driven, you could say - which means that your site will be all about YOU and the services you offer. I want your prospective clients to see it and go “Yes! Thank you! THAT'S what I've been looking for!”

What I don't do

My services aren't for everyone. In fact, one of the reasons I'm so effective at what I do is that I've got a very select clientele. I've learned what kind of clients and businesses are best suited to my services, and I'll let you know up front if I think I'm a good fit for your unique needs and objectives. If not, I'll refer you to someone who can build the kind of site you're looking for.

  • I don't do online stores. For a variety of reasons, my services aren't well suited to businesses that want to provide online catalogs and ordering. Again, I'm happy to refer you to designers who do this kind of work.

  • I don't guarantee that your site will be #1 on Google. Search optimization and keyword research are part of the basic services. This will ensure that the search engines can find your site, but full optimization requires a much more extensive process and a lot of additional text. What I do guarantee is that your new website will significantly increase your customer/client base.

  • I don't forget - ever - that your website exists to help your business succeed

How it works

Are you ready to make your life easier - and to start growing your business in ways you'd never dreamed possible?

Call me at 612-237-1235 for a free consultation to find out if my services are right for you. If they are, I'll put you on my schedule and send you a contract to sign. Then I'll set up a time to interview you by phone or video conference.

During the interview process (usually one session but sometimes more), I'll talk with you about what you and your business are all about - and what kind of people might need or want your services.

I'll ask you a lot of questions and take a lot of notes. I'll have you choose from a selection of high-quality templates and find out how you'd like me to modify them to suit your taste, including changing the colors and adding photos or images. I'll do keyword research to make sure the search engines know where to find your site. And then I'll take all of that information and create a website for you that finds you the customers you need - and brings them on home.

How long does all this take - and how much does it cost? In most cases, I'll complete your site within 1–2 weeks of signing the contract. And my fee ranges (depending on the complexity) from $1,500 to $3,000 for up to a 10-page site, with half of the amount due on signing the contract and the balance due when the site goes live.

And it does work

In case you still have any doubts about whether this really works - whether the content of your site is what matters - think about this: You've just read our whole site, right? And there isn't a single bell or whistle anywhere in sight. But the message comes across:

I want to help your business to grow!
